Giza Pyramids Complex
The Giza Pyramids Complex, near Cairo, Egypt, includes the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, plus the Great Sphinx. Built around 2580-2510 BC, it showcases ancient Egypt’s architectural prowess and serves as a key archaeological and tourist site.
The Great Pyramids of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Khufu, built around 2580 BC, is the largest of the Giza pyramids. Originally 146.6 meters tall, it’s now about 138.8 meters. Made of 2.3 million limestone blocks, it’s the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and remains largely intact, showcasing ancient Egyptian engineering.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx, located on the Giza Plateau, is a colossal limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh, likely Khafre. Built around 2500 BC, it measures 73 meters long and 20 meters high. It’s one of the world’s largest and oldest monolithic statues, symbolizing ancient Egyptian ingenuity.
The Valley Temple
The Valley Temple, located near the Great Sphinx and the Pyramid of Khafre in Giza, Egypt, is an ancient funerary temple dating back to the Old Kingdom, around 2500 BCE. This temple served as a site for the mummification process and religious rituals for the pharaoh Khafre. It’s renowned for its impressive architecture, including massive limestone blocks and well-preserved granite pillars. The Valley Temple offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient Egyptian burial practices and the grandeur of their monumental construction.
The Egyptian Museum
The Egyptian Museum, is a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Established in 1902, it houses over 120,000 items spanning 5,000 years of history. Highlights include intricate statues, tools, and jewelry, as well as the mummies of pharaohs displayed in the Royal Mummies Room.
